Daniel Hudson didn’t look much like a rookie tonight. The top pitching prospect in the White Sox organization took the mound for the second time since being recalled (fourth MLB start) and mowed down the Seattle Mariners. Hudson went 6 2/3 innings while yielding five hits and one earned run. He struck out the side in the second inning and finished with six strikeouts.
Hudson (1-0) was still hitting 94mph in the seventh inning before being removed with two outs after a bad hop ate up third baseman Omar Vizquel.
After Jake Peavy went down with a season-ending injury, the White Sox turned to the Old Dominion standout. Hudson dominated in Triple-A this year, going 11-4 with a 3.47 ERA. He struck out 108 batters in 93 1/3 innings while holding batters to a .228 batting average. Expect the young righty to remain in the five-hole for the remainder of the season. Hudson is certainly a must-add in all keeper leagues, and he looks like a good add in most mixed leagues too.
